The short answer
Buy the Pure Green ifcertified organic material is why you are on this site, you sleep hot, or you dislike the sensation of memory foam holding you in place. GOLS is a whole-product organic certification and it is the strongest label anywhere in our topper coverage — nothing else we cover comes close.
Buy the PERLECARE if you want the bed firmer without spending mattress money, you want a certified cover as well as certified foam, or you are not sure this is the right fix yet. It carries both CertiPUR-US on the foam and OEKO-TEX on the cover, which is unusual at its price.
Latex and memory foam behave in opposite ways
This is the part that decides whether you will like what you bought, and no spec sheet conveys it.
Latex is springy. Press into it and it pushes back immediately and keeps pushing. You lie on it rather than in it, and when you turn over the surface returns to shape underneath you. That resilience is exactly why it can add support: it holds your hips up rather than accepting them.
Memory foam is slow. Press into it and it yields, then gradually conforms around the shape you made. Even the firm base foam in the PERLECARE has a thin memory-foam surface over it, so the immediate feel is one of settling in rather than being held up. It gets its support from the base layer's structure, not from the surface pushing back.
People tend to have strong preferences here, and they do not correlate with back pain. If you have ever found memory foam claustrophobic or hard to turn over on, latex is the material you have been looking for. If you like the cradled feeling, a firm-base foam topper gives you support without giving that up. Our latex versus memory foam guide goes into the mechanics in full.
Two inches of latex against three of foam
The thickness difference is not the mismatch it looks like, because the two materials do different amounts of work per inch.
Latex is dense and resilient, so two inches of firm latex changes a bed's support meaningfully. The maker describes the firm grade as giving strong pinpointed support, and that is the correct expectation — it is a support layer, not a cushioning one. What it will not do is provide pressure relief; a side sleeper looking for shoulder cushioning should be reading our side-sleeper topper page instead.
The PERLECARE needs its three inches because the top layer is memory foam that has to be crossed before you reach the firm base. Layer order is what makes it work: memory foam over firm base foam adds stability, and the reverse arrangement — firm over soft — would just be a hard surface floating on a soft one.
Certifications: the biggest gap on this page
GOLS (Global Organic Latex Standard) certifies the finished latex product, requiring at least 95% certified organic latex by weight along with limits on harmful substances and emissions. It is a whole-product organic standard, which puts it in a different category from everything else we cover. The maker also states Fair For Life fair-trade certification.
CertiPUR-US plus OEKO-TEXis what the PERLECARE carries: the foam tested for restricted content and low emissions, the cover tested for harmful substances. That is a genuinely good pairing at its price — it covers both the material and the fabric — and it is a substances-tested claim rather than an organic one. Different question, honestly answered.
Our certification decoder sets the scope of each of these side by side, and our organic explainer covers what GOTS and GOLS actually require.
Practical differences you will notice
Weight. Natural latex is heavy. A queen slab is genuinely awkward to move alone, and it is a two-person job to fit. The foam topper arrives compressed and weighs a fraction of it.
Staying put. The PERLECARE has a non-slip base and four corner straps. The latex slab has neither, and relies on friction and your fitted sheet.
Smell. The PERLECARE listing warns of a new-foam smell needing 24 to 48 hours of airing. Latex has its own distinct smell — faintly rubbery, usually milder, and it fades. Our guide to off-gassing covers what is normal.
Warranty. The Pure Green publishes a 5-year limited warranty. The PERLECARE publishes none, which we record as not published — and on a product whose entire purpose is to resist compression over time, a stated term is worth more than it looks. If that bothers you, the BedStory alternative publishes ten years at a similar price.
Allergy. Natural latex is unsuitable for anyone with a latex allergy. Worth stating plainly, because it is the one hard exclusion on this page.
The check to run before either
A firm topper is the right product when your mattress has softened but is structurally sound. It is the wrong product when the support core has actually failed — adding firmness on top of a genuine sag gives you a firm surface following a curve.
Strip the bed, crouch until your eye is level with the surface, and look along its length. A visible hollow where you sleep means the core has gone, and our guide to fixing a sagging mattress covers what can and cannot be salvaged. No hollow, but the bed feels too soft? That is exactly what these two are for.
