Why this site exists
Mattress shopping for a bad back is a maze of testing claims, hidden specs and scary words like “fiberglass.” The big review sites lead with proprietary labs and doctor panels; the eco sites throw around certification logos without ever explaining what they actually audit. Pillow & Postexists to do the plain, honest version of the job: find the beds, toppers and pillows you can genuinely buy on Amazon today, record the certifications each one states, and explain — in plain English — what those certifications really mean for you.
Our whole editorial stance fits in one sentence: we tell you what we know, how we know it, and where we don’t.When a listing won’t state its firmness or its fiberglass position, we print “Not published” rather than guessing. When a cheaper certified bed does the same job as an expensive one, we say so, even though the expensive one might pay us more. And we have never invented a review, a rating, or a sleep-trial story — there are none anywhere on this site.
Who writes it
Pillow & Post is written by Stephen V.. Stephen is an enthusiast who got deep into this because he cares what a mattress is actually made of. He reads the manuals, compiles the published specs, records the certifications each product's listing states, and does the math — no lab coat, no test rig. He is not a doctor or a chiropractor, and nothing on Pillow & Post is medical advice. What he brings is a habit of checking a claim against its source and a certification against what it actually audits, and saying so plainly when a product doesn't hold up.
That is a deliberate limit, and we’d rather be straight about it than borrow authority we haven’t earned. We are not a sleep clinic and we run no test lab, so we don’t claim clinical results or hands-on testing. What we do instead is spelled out in full on our methodology page: compile the published specs, record the stated certifications and explain their scope, cite the evidence, and give honest verdicts that commission can’t buy.
The one thing we do that the big sites don’t
Nobody in this field leads with certification literacy. So that’s our job. Our Certification Decoderis a plain-English reference for what CertiPUR-US, OEKO-TEX, GREENGUARD Gold, GOTS, GOLS and MADE SAFE each actually audit — and, crucially, what they leave out. It needs no lab to be useful, and it’s the page we’d want to read before spending several hundred dollars on a bed.
