What historically discounts, and what rarely does
The honest picture is uneven. Some of what this site covers has a long, well-documented Black Friday history. Some of it has none that we could find, and we would rather say so than round up.
Mattresses: the deepest and most reliable seasonal discount
Two deal-tracking editors who have watched this category for years agree on the outline. TechRadar’s buying-calendar ranks Black Friday first of the year’s mattress sales, ahead of Presidents’ Day, Labor Day and Memorial Day, and describes it as the point where most brands post their lowest prices of the year. Tom’s Guide’s year-on-year comparison adds the shape of it: most brands now launch their offer by mid-November, hold it flat through Cyber Monday, and change only the marketing language between the two. Both note that sticker prices tend to dip before Black Friday and creep back up after Cyber Monday.
Two caveats from the same records matter for the beds we cover. First, most of that history is brand-direct— DreamCloud, Helix, Saatva and the like selling from their own sites. Our picks are the certified, fiberglass-free beds you can buy on Amazon, where the retailer sets the offer, and Amazon’s own October event is, in TechRadar’s words, not especially competitive for mattresses. Second, the early-November “early bird” offers are usually weaker than the late-month ones, and the popular models sell out or go on backorder over the weekend itself — Tom’s Guide singles out stock-limited deals on Amazon and Walmart as the ones that can vanish before Cyber Monday.
Toppers: a dated record, and it is modest at the budget end
Tom’s Guide kept a running list of topper prices over Black Friday 2025, and two of the entries are toppers this site already covers, sold on Amazon. The Sleep Innovations Dual Layer 4-inch queen was recorded at roughly thirty percent under its list price. The LUCID 3-inch gel queen was recorded at roughly fifteen percent under — a saving in the region of a takeout dinner. A cooling variant of the TEMPUR-Adapt topper (not the standard model we cover) was recorded on Amazon well under its list price. Those are last year’s figures, worked out from a dated page; they are not what will happen this year, and nothing like them appears on the buttons below unless Amazon is offering it today. We deliberately do not reprint the dollar amounts — the only prices on this site are the live, dated ones.
The pattern in that record is the useful part: the cheaper the topper, the smaller the dollar saving, and the same editors note that toppers rarely come with the free-pillow bundles mattresses do. A premium topper is where waiting has historically paid; a budget topper is where it has bought very little.
Pillows, knee pillows and wedges: no dated record we can cite
We looked for a documented Black Friday history for the small positioning pillows and cervical pillows we recommend and did not find one we would put our name to. These are the cheapest products on the site, sitting at prices where a discount is a few dollars either way and where the listing price already moves week to week. We will record what we actually see this November and post it here. Until then, the only honest statement is “data unavailable.”
Adjustable bases and protectors: same answer
The brand-direct base makers bundle bases into mattress sets over Black Friday, but the Amazon-sold bases we cover are a different market and we found no dated record for them. Protectors, likewise. Amazon’s own October press release for 2025 named “cozy bedding and blankets” among its discount categories and did not name mattresses or bases at all, which is a fair summary of where its attention goes.
Buy now, or wait for November? By product class
The question is not “will it be cheaper” — historically, for a mattress, the answer is usually yes. The question is what the wait costs you, and that depends entirely on which product you are shopping for.
Mattress — wait if you can, with two exceptions.The record above is strongest here. If your bed is merely old and you are planning ahead, the middle of November has historically been the best window, and the days before Black Friday itself better than the first week of the month. The exceptions: if you are waking up in pain now, ten more weeks on the wrong bed is a real cost that a discount of unknown size may not cover; and if you are buying a model whose listing states a long trial — our DreamCloud pick states 365 nights — the risk of buying today is already covered by the return window rather than by the calendar. Topper — depends on the price tier. For a premium topper like the TEMPUR-Adapt, a variant of which was recorded well under list last November, waiting has a documented upside. For the certified budget and mid-price toppers that make up most of our topper roundup, the recorded savings were small, and a topper is the product most likely to be fixing a problem tonight. Buy it when you need it.
Pillows and positioning pillows — buy when needed. No record, low prices, and the fastest payoff of anything on this site. A knee pillow that helps a side sleeper’s back does so on the first night; the gap between its everyday price and any possible November price is not worth weeks of the problem. Adjustable base — buy when you are ready, not when the calendar says. No dated record for the Amazon-sold bases we cover, and a base is a heavy freight item that needs a compatible mattress, a frame it fits in, and two people to assemble. Protector — buy with the mattress. It goes on before the first night, and the certified options in our protector roundup are priced where a seasonal discount would be marginal.
How to tell a real Black Friday discount from a decorated one
The struck-through “was” price is the whole trick of the season, so it is worth knowing the rule behind it. The FTC’s Guides Against Deceptive Pricing say a former price is a legitimate basis for a discount claim only if it is the actual, bona fide price at which the item was offered to the public on a regular basis for a reasonably substantial period — not a figure set up to make the comparison look bigger. That is the standard, and it is also why the strike-through on our buy buttons is Amazon’s own reported list price rather than anything we typed in.
Three practical checks. One: note the price of the thing you want now, in September or October, and compare against that in November rather than against the label on the day. Our buttons carry the date each price was pulled, which makes this easy. Two:a “discount” that is identical to the one running on Labor Day is a permanent price with a seasonal name; Tom’s Guide notes brands save their deepest topper discounts for Black Friday but also that some offers simply carry over from earlier holidays. Three: free-gift bundles are how brands enlarge an offer without cutting the price. A free pillow you did not want is not a discount on the mattress.
The two things that do not change in November
What the bed is made of.A Black Friday price does not add a certification or remove a fiberglass fire barrier. Every pick above was chosen on what its listing states — CertiPUR-US foam, OEKO-TEX fabric, a stated fiberglass-free build — and a cheaper bed that states none of it is not a better deal for the buyer this site is written for. Whether it suits your back. Firmness is the spec the evidence actually ties to back pain, and the right firmness for you is the same in November as in September. If you are choosing a bed for the first time, read the firmness guide before you look at a single price.
